Pedestrian found injured at side of road in Windham area

A pedestrian was airlifted to hospital after being found injured on the side of a road in rural Norfolk on Saturday morning.

Police and paramedics responded to Norfolk County Road 19 in the Windham area at about 6:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a pedestrian lying on the side of the road.

Ornge Air Ambulance confirmed that they had transported a man in his 30s to Hamilton General Hospital with critical injuries.

A police investigation is underway, said West Region OPP Acting Sgt. Ed Sanchuk.

“We are in the early stages of the investigation and we are attempting to put the pieces of the puzzle back together,” Sanchuk said on social media.

Norfolk County Road 19 were closed for most of the day between Butler’s Lane and Windham East Quarter Line Road for the investigation.

“Police are seeking the public’s assistance with this investigation,” said Sanchuk. “Anyone living on Norfolk County Road 19 is being asked to check their video surveillance systems if they have them on their homes to see if they’ve captured anything suspicious, to see if they’ve captured any vehicles travelling down the roadway, to see if they’ve captured this pedestrian walking down the roadway.”

Police are also asking any drivers travelling down Norfolk County Rd. 19 early Saturday morning to contact police if they witnessed or saw a pedestrian walking down the road. Drivers with dashcams are also asked to check the footage.
