In 1950, the United Nations called on all 59 member countries, including Canada, to help end the Korean conflict, as North Korean forces captured Seoul.

In 1968, the Husky Tower (now the Calgary Tower) was officially opened. At the time, the 191-metre structure was the tallest of its kind in North America. It was developed by Husky Oil Canada and Marathon Realty.
